Intel 2011 Roadmap

More chipsets? ugh. I love intel chips, but i hate upgrading mobo's all the friggin time. maybe I will go AM3 on my current build.
 
Probably not. While they will no doubt be great processors, I doubt it's going to offer revolutionary performance.

Which will be phased out when buldozer has its quad channel variant next year that will require a new socket otherwise it would not compete with Intel's best being down 1/2 the memory bandwith and supposedly more cores.

This was socket 1155 which is the mid and low end. I do not believe there will be a 6 core on that. However there will be a 6 and probably 8 core on socket 2011.

The jump in performance from information given seems to point to something similar from the Core 2s to Nehalems. So like how many Core 2 users have not upgraded to Intels nehalems, likewise I'm sure many current nehalem generation users won't necessarily need/want to upgrade to sandy bridge either.

But if you are currently on core 2 still, I'd think waiting at this point would be better since it isn't far off. Well, that is what I'm doing anyways.
 
One interesting thing is they only had 4/8 and 6/12 variants on X58 now they have added 2/4 and 4/4 ones too which means it will be cheaper to get 2011.
 
Hell, I was debating on upgrading from a CO 920 to a DO 930. If I find a buyer for my CPU, is that worth it? I just invested in my Rampage III Extreme mobo, so I don't think a new standard will interest me for a while, not to mention I have access, ok expensive access to those 6 core CPUs to hold me off.
 
So does this mean that the 1155 socket will be out before the 2011 socket? Or will they be released at the same time? I was thinking about building a new comp soon, (Rampage 3, i7-930..etc) but if the 2011 will be out soon it might be worth it to wait?
 
Oh wow haha I completely mis-skimmed, I thought all the 2011 references were to the socket, not the year.

I believe yes, LGA 1155 is slated to be released in late 2010 and LGA 2011 in Q2 Q3 2011.

Hexa and octa core processors are not all that useful for most applications as the majority of programs are single threaded or if they are newer maybe coded to be able to run subs on separate threads. The next step now is to have more specific instruction engines that can do stuff like hardware .h264 en/decode without loading up the CPU or GPU. Processors will start becoming more and more modular as they just add in plugin functions to be able to do set specific standard functions for A/V/Physics etc.
