I'm suprised no one has posted this yet...

Intel has an employee purchase program for employees of retail computer stores. This year they are offering...

Intel Pentium 4 3.4 (550) socket 775
the good one with the 1 mb cache and 800 mhz fsb

intel 915pbl board
which features a 16x pci express slot and 2 1x pci express slots (mega expensive)
also it uses ddr2 ram (mega expensive)

and a nice little copy of xp pro

all for 200 bucks

there is a catch though you have to do these tests to get points, they only have 10,000 available in this offer right now I have 7800 points and I'm sitting right around 3,000 so if you even want a chance for this offer you got to be quick about taking the tests

definitely hot.... if you don't look at how much you are going to spend on a pci express graphics card and ddr2 ram

Interesting offer although i'm not willing to work in a retail store to qualify!

I like your name :D , Noooorman...bring me some tea...! (insert bone chilling theme song to the Twilight Zone here)*(insert a shovel meat whacking thump! here)

I am real iffy about getting this... I know if I buy it i'm going to end up spending 1000 bucks on ram and a video card.. but hey my athlon 64 from the amd retail purchase program isn't reliable enough to leave online overnight (shuts off due to overheating). Although it is a beast of a gaming system.

Isn't reliable enough or doesn't have sufficient ventilation? ;)

Dude, you need to check your case airflow.

My bundle from the AMD EPP is solid as a rock. I can leave it running for days on end with no problem.

Install some intake and exhaust fans into your case.

airflow is ok 5 case fans (not including ps)... I usually sit at around 42C. Its just when I run a few file sharing programs after about 6 hours the computer overheats and craps out... I run farcry and ffxi all day (literally) and nothing happens... hits 55C max then I leave it on some simple file sharing program and boom 8 hours and its out. Something tells me its more of a software issue ha.

The offer to order doesn't start till October?

Suck that archived challenges don't give you points. I need to visit more often.

I like how they are doing it this year with the points. It rewards the people who have been taking the tests all along. I will have my 10,000 points as soon as I go to the chips n tips on the 19th. I'm #2149 as of now. Can't wait to upgrade!

heh, normanbatez, if u think that 3.4g prescott is gonna be cooler than the A64 u have, u are wrong bro.

thats gonna be hotter, much hotter.

i suggest u check the heatsink mounting, and thermak grease etc. or just get a better cooler.

sorry for being off topic tho.

maz

I redid my bios... uninstalled my processer driver and reinstalled it... 8 hours now no probs

definitely just software...

anyways I still want my p4 and my pci x card :p

not looking forward to dropping over 200 on ram though

does anybody know where you can take the chipsntips survey it never comes up for me

you have to attend one of the conventions

can I bs it or do I have to physically attend the show I know alot of intel facts and I might be able to look some stuff up on the net

Hmm, no conventions in my area.

Does anyone know if the "passcode" given at the conventions (to earn 1500 chips) is one basic one that would work for everyone, or are the unique? (somehow I doubt they would be unique, but just in case) :p

They give you a passcard with a generated code which you type in your profile.

You get 1.5K points, you should go to the convention for the FREE FOOD. I mean it was good. Hamburgers, preztels, hotdogs, popcorn, grilled chicken, salads, and cookies. After you eat, they pretty much talk about the stuff on the website.

Plus you get free swag. Handled out some free 16MB keylanards and a limited amount of hats.

Nice. :)
If they had one in AZ I'd be on it, but I don't see myself going to the closest place (Cali) for it.

Yeah you can't bluff your way through the live survey's you have to register on intel's site and you have to make sure you get your code from the event. You also have to answer a survey about the event you were at. Like Vesentac said the intel live events are cool they have food, system demos, freebies and as of late they've been giving away cpu/mb combos. The combos aren't as high end as the purchase program but they give away 2.8's and a board. One of my buds that works at a Best Buy in Indiana said only 30 people showed up and 20 walked away with combos. Not every event has them but hell if you work at a retail store it's a fun way to blow a few hours on a sunday night.

Keep checking under live events every week, because for a long time there wasn't one listed for New Orleans, but then one day it was there. I think they only post them when it is getting close to when it actually is. I'm going with a few guys from work. Too good of a deal to pass up.

I live two hours from New York and can't drive hmm think I can convince my parents into a 4 or maybe 5 hour car drive. Thought about it nope :(

I need the code from the detroit one, they decided to put it up 3 dyas before it started thus leaving me no time to plan. that sucks.

yeah that would be nice to get some people to get some codes LOL. it would put me over the top...otherwise I am screwed.

They hand you one flyer with one code at a time. Unless you grabbed a flyer, went back in line for another, you wont get another code. Or, say you got your coworkers to come and tok their codes that could work.

Heyy... I think we (the independant product dealers) finally got a better deal than the retailers this year.

http://intel.seminars.net/iccna/

The bundle we get this year is a 530J and 915GAGL, but no Microsoft software. The 915GAGL uses regular DDR memory and has the onboard video so you can wait for the price of PCI-E cards to drop before jumping on. I don't know how expensive it will be (probably $200US) or how many people will go for the dual Xeon server bundle either (I'd rather have one opteron)

everyones code is different i tried to snag my friends one from ft lauderdale, going to the one in orlando on the 3rd of october just down the street from my job. i already have 11000 points, just need a few more cuz i can :)

I drove two hours there hoping to win a board...o well,

Looks like the Intel Product Dealer is a lot closer! What does it take to be apart of it.

Oh in my Chips Mete just told me this
You have earned a total of 7090 Chips.
That makes you number 5190 in the ranking of Chip collectors.

My friend went and got lucky and got in....He won 7,000 points to buy a setup.

Really stupid question, but I thought I heard that the ddr2 boards were going to be backwards compatible, like pc 100 worked on pc 133 boards. I don't want to drop hundredds on ram doing this either and quite fr4ankly, since I am posting on my p4 3.0 from last years deal, I don't really need it either.

BTW--sorry guys, I am a happy member of the 10,000 club

with 7000 you arent guarenteed, id tell him to get 10,000 if more people get more points then him then he'll lose out on his bundle

Bah. I missed a bunch of the challanges so I'm only at:
You have earned a total of 9280 Chips.
That makes you number 3622 in the ranking of Chip collectors.

I need to get that 720 more points and then I'm in.

In case no one has read the fine print.

The first 10,000 eligible members* to reach the 10k Club will each have a guaranteed opportunity to purchase one of 10,000 bundles.

4640 with 8700 or so points.

i think they will have 10000 bundles, and if you have over 10k points, you automatically get one.
so as long as your rank is above 10001, youll get a bundle. Right?

The 1st 10,000 people with over 10,000 points are garunteed a bundle. After that it depends on how many units Intel plans on selling for the progam. I'm at 8600+ points I wish I could hit a live event to garuntee a spot but no time .
