Intel 1H 2009 Roadmap

What I'm seeing at this point isn't a whole lot other than die-shrink and beyond that they won't have further to go unless they figure out some other way to get past 10nm because as far as I know that is the theoretical limit. At some point in time, unless cpu's are fabbed with some other process or there is an actual shift in material science, they will hit a brick wall and from the looks of it, it isn't that far away.
 
I don't understand why everybody is bummed? A couple quarters of getting to enjoy what we have on the market now is a good thing. By the end of Q2, new stuff will be coming along to make all the current stuff seem "old" by comparison. I think 6 months of getting to enjoy my new i7 920 as being one of the top of the line CPUs available is a good thing.
 
Looks like i5 has been cancelled for the meantime, as was speculated a few days ago.
Too bad, I was curious to see what it would be like to have the CPU directly connected
to the video card. :)

because not everyone bought one. Those of us with q6600s or whatever are waiting for a real reason to buy something new, whether that means cheaper motherboards or an improved version of the i7 and it looks like that's not gonna happen for a while.

Funny thing you say "those of us with Q6600's..." seeing as that's what I had before I upgraded. Sorry, but if you want anybody to feel sorry because i7 remains unchallenged for a bit longer, then your barking up the wrong tree. Improved i7's are what your waiting on? Well, you have awhile to wait on that anyway, this recent announcement has no effect on that, it effects Core i5. You wouldn't be upgrading from a Q6600 to a i5 anyway. That's not an upgrade.
 
does anyone know what clock speeds the C2Q will end at?

I have an Intel mobo (no OC) and wanted to drop 1 last chip in there. I have an e6600 now, and its just not enough for some of the current game titles. I've been looking at the e8600, but if they release a C2Q at 3.33ghz this year...I'll definitley wait for that.

...and yes..it will be more costly for me to switch over to i7. :D

I seriously doubt we will see anything faster than the e8700 or the q9650 for mainstream processors. Intel is also discontinuing the EE line of the core 2 family.

I don't really see what you mean. You asked why everyone isn't happy that intel isn't releasing any exciting new products anytime soon, and I gave a common sense answer.

It's unfortunate cause the transition from core 2 -> i7 was nothing like the p4 -> c2. If you really can use the i7 now, that's cool, but it doesn't really seem like that much of an amazing improvement to me to warrant spending all that money. I would say most midrange buyers in the know agree with me.

Basically the point is that it is looking like nothing much exciting is coming in 2009 :(
 
Eh im happy with my E5200 and Q9550, 4.6Ghz on air on the Q9550 is enough to hold me through a few years.
