Just bought the Ati Silencer 4. How hard is this thing to put on?


Are there any more detailed instructions? the ones that came don't really give ame a clear view of what exactly I need to do. I feel uncomfortable screwing with a $400 video card? :p
 
It's really easy.
1- Tale off stock hsf.
2- Clean old thermal patse off of the core. Use high purity isopropyl alcohol. Qtips work well. Make sure the core is clean and free of lint. Can of air works well.
3- Apply Arctic silver 5 on core. I used the included thermal patse on the memory.
4- Place the silencer on a flat desktop. Carefully lower the vid card onto the silencer, make sure the bolts are lined up with the holes on the vid card.
5- apply thermal paste to the ram chips on the back of the card.
6- Lower the back peice onto the vid card. put the black rubber washers on. Put the nuts on the bolts and alternately tighten until the rubber washers are very slightly compressed. The two nuts that go onto the little metal piece should be tightened until the metal piece is straight.
7- Make sure it is on securely and put it in the machine.
8- test temps with ati tool.
9- overclock the living crap out of it.

You think it would be worth over clocking if I have

Athlon 64 3200
1 gig DDR
500watt PSU

is the CPU the bottle neck in this situation?
 
All Cpus are bottlenecks for the top end video cards. You probably wot notice the overclock when it comes to games. Maybe a few frames per sec. But your benchmarking scores will be better. If you care about that sort of thing.
