Is this possible...?

I have this laptops at work that have no other drive than a usb floppy which boots and no usb cdrom we have tried so far has been able to boot up...

thx

idk if it is possible unless you could some how partition your hdd in two and make the bios reconize that the second partition as a second hdd.

If this is a workplace, and the laptops aren't going to come with optical drives, then you need to start looking into some way of delivering images through the network, such as Ghost.

We already do this...

But the workstations are laptops, so we deliver images from a hdd to which we already install w2k. The thing is that we would like to use xp on them.

To be more clear on this. We have a whole buch of almost tablet pc laptops (80+) and we want to install xp pro on them. The laptops don't have any type of optical drive from which to boot from other than a floppy drive.

We have the ability to access the hdd that are going to be put in the laptops from a desktop workstation ( we already have this usb device to read/write the small form factor laptop hdd...

So... Any ideas..?

thx

You could try copying the cd to a second partition and then use the floppy boot disks to install from.. Have never tried it on xp.. But it used to work for 98se and 2k..

edit: Just make sure to only format the partition you are installing to, and do not mess with the partitions while in setup..
i was told that for w98 and w2k this worked but that with xp it didnt...

How about removing the laptop HD, installing it in the desktop (using a adaptor) as a second HD. Format it, copy over the i386 folder from the Win XP cd. Reinstall the HD in the laptop. and run the winnt.exe or winnt32.exe (I can't remember witch one of the top of my head). after windows installs you can delete the i386 folder.

just a sugestion...I've done this way before with win2k several times.

Have any of you people tried this with oem licenses?

All the 80+ laptops came with those type of licenses and at some point in the install a message comes up saying that it cant find the license file...
