Installing WinXP Pro problems

I installed Winxp pro in my daughter's pc and when the pc restarted the first time, am I suppose to boot from the disk or the hdd.? Because if I boot from the cd will walk me through the whole process again and tells me that there is an OS already installed and gives me the option of creating another partition. Now if I boot up from the hdd it will start with the XP window and it'll freeze right there and won't do anything else. The first time it went past that and I had a blue screen but tha same thing happen it frozed. Please advise

Pc specs:
Biostar M7NCD-A04 ver. 3.0 Mobo (NF2 400)
Athlon XP mobile 2600+
Aerocool Hercules w/fan (hsf)
Corsair valueselect ram 512 mb
Chaintec Volari V3 xgi Video card (128mb)
CPU TEMP. 39.0C
 
I tried to reboot from the hdd and a blue screen comes and tells me that is checking the C: drive for any insonsistency and starts a countdown but it stops and is like it freezes again. I waited about half hour ( at least it felt like half an hour) and it stayed in the same screen. Now I pressed any key and it said that it was skipping the process and going into the set up. Obviously it goes into a blank blue screen and it freezes again. Now I'm erasing the hdd again. This is like the fourth time and I've done 2 other pc in the mean time so I know i'm not doing anything wrong. Please help.
 
Well I just bought another hdd, cause I have a feeling that's what it is ( I hope). I installed another hdd ( a 2.1gb) to test it and the mobo recognizes the hdd but when I'm ready to install XP, the os will not and the hdd is running cause i can hear it. :confused:ing
 
Aother problem when the computer restarts to continue the set up this error message appears: "Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete the specified operation." Now keep in mind that I haven't install the hdd that I bought 'cause is on it's way, all I did was installed another cpu (Duron 1.8g) just to please the manufacturer even though I now that is not what it is.
 
Well problem has been solve, it was the hdd. I got the new hdd today installed it no problems whatsoever. Now I'm using a Duron cpu instead of the mobile which i'm swicthing in the next couple of days.
