installing windows on a software raid5

ive got 2 WD 200GB drives that ive been using in a Raid0 for a while now
im wondering if there is a way to install windows to a software raid 5
my raid controler only does raid 0,1, 1/0 but not raid 5

i know windows will make a software raid 5 but is it possible to install to this software raid?

if not what would be the best bang for buck PATA raid 5 controller?
 
Not allowed. MS will not allow your OS boot volume to be on a multiple drive software RAID array. You can mirror your boot volume, but you may not span, stripe, or stripe with parity. This is a protection against a member of the array failing and making the whole system unbootable, and I am not aware of any way around it, although I have not tried.

RAID 5 doesn't fail when one drive goes. However, installing to a software RAID 5 volume set is not supported for obvious reasons. You can install to and boot from a hardware RAID 5 volume though.
 
we have all failed to mention that you also need a minimum of three (3) hard drives in order to do a RAID 5 array (hardware or software!)

That's part of the definition so I didn't think it was worth mentioning. I wouldn't do RAID 5 with only 3 drives though. I prefer at least 5.
 
i know you need 3 drives

sucks that you cant install to it
oh well it was worth a thought
