greetings,

I'm struggling to install windows 8 in UEFI mode on my asus p8z77-v lk motherboard.

I updated the BIOS to the latest version, that is 0908.

I have this USB stick that was created with that Windows 8 USB tool, it has the Windows 8 installer.

I can't seem to boot into the USB stick in UEFI mode.

Do I have to disable CSM (compatibility support module)?

I'm trying to google this but it is just confusing me even more..........

Did the USB have to be created in UEFI mode? :|

Does the BIOS of my videocard have to support UEFI to install Windows 8 in UEFI mode?

Thx

I do not have an answer for you but I can share my experience.

UEFI via USB did not work for me in Consumer Preview (using microsfot win7 iso to usb).

It DID work with the $40 upgrade using windows upgrade assistant to make USB stick.

My ASUS boards use UEFI perfectly. Gigabyte tends suck at UEFI implementation. On my p67a-ud7-b3 I had to disable the gsata (gigabyte sata) to get UEFI to work properly.

I can suggestion 3 things.
1. Burn an ISO to DVD and try UEFI install that way.

2. Make sure your board is properly booting UEFI, try a ubuntu or redhat disk just to see if it boots UEFI.

3. Check to see if you have something like gsata enabled that could be disabling UEFI boot.

it's really frustrating trying to use this new technology.

anyway, I'm going old school and installing windows 8 on my SSD without any UEFI...

I guess I'll have to study this subject a lot more.
