Installing win7 upgrade question

So I've been looking into the upgrade sale they have on now (As most are) But one concern I have is if I get the upgrade version am I going to have to do a double install every time I format my computer? I can't seem to find any clear information on this anywhere. Mircosoft states that if you have XP installed you must to a clean install of Win7, but they don't say if you can just use your upgrade version install disc to do a fresh install on a blank hard drive without having an pervious OS installed.

And yes I know this question is in about 5 other threads but I haven't been able to find an answer for it yet.
 
You'll have to provide proof that you have the other license when doing a clean install. Likley have to enter the cd key and pop in the disc then it will continue on with the clean install of Windows 7.....
 
I've been hearing this, but is there any official documentation? Not that I don't believe you, but MS is less than reliable in these sort of situations. :p
 
I was wondering the same thing. I have an old version of Windows XP media center on my laptop, but there are no discs for it. I have the key on the sticker, but there never were any discs.

hmmm not sure on this one. Did it come with any restore discs or anything like that? You may have to jump through some hoops or call MS :shudders: but I'm sure there is an available "upgrade" path. Upgrade meaning you have to wipe and reinstall all your apps and bring back in your data...

It had the partition with the restore data. I burnt that to like 24 CDs, or something like that. I was planning on the clean install, I just don't want to run into issues with the upgrade. I hope I don't have to resort to calling MS.
 
I always wondered what to do with all the room on my hard drive. I finally wised up and partitioned the thing down the middle. Install my OS/Games/Apps to C: and find target my user folder folders to D: drive folders I set up, so all my music/downloads/movies, etc., are stored on the D: drive. When I format and reinstall the OS I keep everything then just point the folders back. Keeps all non-important data to the inside of the drive and all my important data to the outside, faster part of the drive, plus saves a big hassle when I reinstall Windows.

I did pretty much the same thing on mine.
 
I went ahead and pre-ordered the Home Premium. We will see how it works out.

Now the question is, should I go ahead an install the latest build on my PC, or wait until October?

Install it, learn the ins and outs, then when your retail copy arives, wipe the drive and install that.
