Installing sata drive on shuttle?

Since these things have no floppy, how should I go about installing sata drivers?
 
here's what I'm gonna do, since the system below in my sig should be done in the next month or so ...

Slipstreaming SP2/SATA Drivers w/ a program called nLite
onto a CD ... as that seems to be the best way to do things, unless you like manually editing stuff.
 
Yes, you can either slipstream your XP install to include the SATA drivers, or, hang a floppy drive off to the side during install and remove once finished. I find this the easiest thing to do for setup.

You only need to do the floppy if your going to be doing a RAID setup, if its just a standalone drive, it should reconize it.

Most of VIA's 8237 SATA series controllers even in native SATA vs RAID still won't be recognized by XP without doing an [F6] install. Intel's ICH5/5-R and ICH6/6-R should work in native SATA mode, but that only helps out the Intel folks. :)

Ahhh but Nvidia's chipsets will :D Another reason VIA is da bitch of the of the chipset world.
 
I actually had installed my SATA drive by using the floppy and F6 install method, just had to hang the floppy off the side. It is however a b1tch to do simply because the cableing on the SN85G4 made it kinda hard to get the floppy in there. So for future formats I'm going to look at doing the slipstream thingy. On another note make sure when installing XP on a SATA HD, and on the SN85G4 (with the built in memory card reader) to unplug the memory card reader, otherwise the reader will take drive C, and D, and ends up giving your hard drive letter F. Not the end of the world, but I don't like my Hard drive not being C, so I ended up reformatting. The memory card reader is USB so after the install you can simply plug it back in and you will be good to go.
 
I keep a usb floppy drive for stuff like this works fine most newer models will even boot from it.
 
Hmm,.....if a USB floppy works, will a USB flash drive work? Not sure if windows setup can detect it :confused:

I have one of the ealier versions of WinXP...like when it first came out...considering getting a new one with SP2 installed already.
 
USB flash drives work but they are tricky to make bootable google it and you should find several answers including ars technica running linux from a 256mb key drive.
