Installing Open Office in OSX

I'm trying to install open office in osx on my MBP, I got the Intel OSX version but when I try to run it it asks for X11, when I try to install that, the installer says my OSX drive already has the latest version.

What am I doing wrong?
 
Download neo office its a far simpler install for the intel macs and it's based on open office :)
 
Hey,

I just installed open office on a friends pc over the weekend and ran into the same problem. The OS X DVD has x11 on it, so I just installed it from there. Also you don't really install the program, as much as you just mount the image and the drag the icon to the application folder. I took me like 40 minutes to figure it out, since double clicking it just opens open office.
 
pop in your OSX install disc.....double click on "Optional Installs Installer" or something like that.....and install X11. It may say its already installed, but I had to run its installer to get it work.
 
Damn, left my OSX disc at home and am on campus atm.

Does NeoOffice support MS Office formats?
 
the only version of X11 you can install on Tiger is the one on the install DVD, unfortunately. heh.
 
I've decided to use Neo Office for the time being. Anyone had any problems using word documents between NeoOffice and MS Office?

No more so than between OpenOffice and MS Office. NeoOffice is the same inside as OpenOffice, it just has a native GUI.

it's more than just a native gui, and the addition of the pretty gui is just as of the last month. All the lines of code have been ported to OS X, but in short yes it's the same, basically, as Open Office. I've never had much problem with M$ Office/Neo Office interchangeability. However, I still prefer the M$ Office on Mac over any other word processor :( Now I just need it to be released in UB :p
