Hey guys, I have had just one 80GB in my computer all the time that I have used it, but now I need to install a slave 80GB. I currently reformatted the original 80GB and am ready to format the other 80GB. I want the other 80GB to be just storage for music and whatnot, while my first 80GB is going to have all my programs on it. How do I go about formatting this other hard drive so it is just for storage?

disconnect it when you install windows so it won't get confused. other than that, go with ntfs, and it'll mount as D:. then copy your music, etc to the d: drive.

well i have windows installed and everything... now how do i format the hard drive after i have windows installed? do i use the windows xp setup disk?

Make sure the drive is connected and recognized in the BIOS and boot into Windows. Right click the My Computer Icon (either in the start menu or on the desktop) Then click manage. Go to disk management on the left then you can select the drive, create a partition and format it. Sorry I can't be more detailed than that but I'm compressing a HUGE file and booted into Knoppix ATM and can't get to my Windows stuff :p Maybe someone else can fill in the details or I can add more steps later if you have trouble figuring it out.

alright well i got taht far but im not sure if i shoudl do an extended or primary partition...

Depends on how many partitions you are creating and whether it needs to be bootable or not. You can only have 4 primary partitions per drive and a partition must be primary for it to be bootable. Since you are using the drive for storage only bootability is not an issue. If you want 1 big partition, make it a primary and be done with it. If you need more than 4 partitions, make it extended and create partitions inside till you're hearts content.
