Hi. I built a pc about 2 months ago with a 52x cdrw drive. I didnt really have any problem installing games or burning to cd, but now im trying to install visual basic .net, with the 6 cds. the installation starts, but after about a minute the cd rom stops spinning and it just stops so the installation wont continue. I wondered if i had my master/slave settings wrong, but it doesnt seem to be. I got system error logs:

An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation.

and another:

The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try a different CD drive...

The software CD that came with my PDA wouldn't work correctly in the CD-rom in my laptop but when I put it into my external drive it worked fine. That's the only cd the drive has had trouble with so it's kind of weird, I guess the recording wasn't a very high quality or something.

try cleaning the drive, if that doesn't work, replace the drive. The lense may be slightly out of alignment and unable to read part of the disk.

Check for firmware updates for your drive. This may be a known issue that has already been addressed.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive? Run a defrag after cleaning out all the junk.
