How would I go about installing a 80mm to 120mm fan adaptor for my sp94? The fan adaptor is made out of aluminum, so its quite heavy. It has all mounting holes, and is an excellent addition to heat dissipation. You can find it for $25 at Frozencpu.com. In my last rig, it lowered my temps enormously. Would this even be feasable? Am I doomed to a simple smartfan forever? If you've done this with a similar heatsink, could you be generous enough to show us pictures?

I'd like to know how someone would go about attaching a 80mm to 120mm fan adaptor to the SP94 heatsink. Thanks for your help.

That would be very nice to know, cuz I have a 947u and a 120mm on that would be nice. As far as i can tell, the only way is to bend those fanclips in to a funny pattern to go around the adapter and clamp down on the lower set of screw holes, but I dont' think any of the clips are the right size for clamping on to what is essentially a .5cm thick fan :( Any ideas?

I've definitely tried that, and its pretty dangerous. I had a large duct with a smartfan hooked into the processor with a 120mm antec high performance fan feeding the smartfan from the outside. It worked well, except the tension on the heatsink was so much I could visibly see the strain that the motherboard was going through to keep the device lined up. Pretty sickening, but it got me those low low temps. :p

I'm going to try wiring zip ties through the holes at the bottom of the heatsink to the 80mm adaptor for a not-so-tight but worthy connection. I'll get back to you on this possibly Saturday.

yep thats the one. Any idea how to mount it?

*btw* the zip tie idea isnt exactly the most permanant solution

Axial fans don't handle backpressure, if I understand you correctly you're going to put the 120mm fan on this and put that on the heatsink. It may not gain you much. You'd be better using an 80 or 92mm fan on the heatsink and using some kind of fan bracket to arrange the 120mm to blow are towards the fan on the heatsink.

bah been there done that, in truth it didnt help my temperatures much. I had a 120mm 80cfm fan securely ducted to a 80mm smartfan. Improved temps from 38C to 36C idle. no difference load. My room temp is insane at about 33C. Case temp is 36C *with the old case, havent gotten everything setup completely on new v1000 case*

I'm looking for a solution that will remove the high pitched whine of the 80mm fan specter for ever.
