Can it be done? I can't seem to get it to work. I run the .exe's in compatibility mode (win95) and it launches but it crashes to desktop. Any help would be great

Scrape up some crappy components for free or basically free and build a win95 box. It doesn't even have to be a box I used to have the components strewn out over a table lol

It turns out after I patched it and put the folder in C:\Dagger it worked. Thanks for the info though.

How is Daggerfall? The story always sounded interesting but i've never seen it in stores and i haven't gone hunting for it online.

Daggerfall was an awesome RPG. You can't buy it new in stores anymore and used copies apparently are worth some money. But I thought the graphics were lacking even back when it came out. :D

I think Daggerfall is every bit as good as Oblivion when it comes to story, depth, and immersion. It's a little ugly these days (but you can likely run it at 500fps if DOSBox works), but the game is exceptional.
I'd love to see a remake of Daggerfall using the Oblivion engine. The only knock on it is that it's pretty buggy. I've fallen through floors into strange voids so many times I can't count. There's something about the Bethesda engines that lend themselves to that problem. Oblivion and Morrowind did that, too...but not as often or as hopelessly. In Oblivion you usually end up back on the map most of the time. In Daggerfall you just had to quickload all the time.

Kinda sad that the Elder Scrolls games have such a reputation for bugginess. Bethesda needs to open source the code or something and let people fix the problems since Bethesda won't get around to it.

Dosbox works, but its FAR from 500fps. More like 15fps if you're lucky. Remember, its emulating an entire DOS computer, not just the OS. But any decent A64 or core duo should be able to run it well with the cycles cranked all the way up to like 20,000+.

Well thats just it, half the time Bethesda is using a store bought engine. Both Morrowind and Oblivion used the Gamebryo (former NDL) engine. Now to Bethesda's credit, DAoC used that engine as well, and I've fallen out of dungeons in that game too.

Maybe Bethesda needs to buy a better engine.

They couldn't even if they wanted to. They don't own the engine. And the guys who do make a living selling that source code. So don't get your hopes up...

Maybe Bethesda needs to buy a better engine.
Certainly seems that way. I don't know what is inherent in the engine and what Bethesda have done themselves, but it certainly seems that Gamebryo's strengths are elsewhere. I don't think they're ditching it just yet though. Pretty sure they'll be using it for Fallout 3.
