i purchased a cogage true spirit for my new build witgh the newer mounting bracket but i cant seem to actually get the screws to the backplate without what seems like excessive force? im wondering if others have noticed this and if i should just push a little harder.

I know what you mean. I had a similar experience as you. Two things helped.

Screw in one of the screws straight into the mounting bracket to get a feeling for how far down it goes. You'll notice that there is a stop in it so you know that Cogage gave some thought on how far down you can screw the bolts.

The holding mechanism is pretty stiff if you screw one side down then go for the next one you will get additional pressure since one side will be a bit higher than the other. What worked for me was to screw down the lower of the two holding brackets (they are in an X with one higher than the other). Mount the two bolt such that they are barely holding in the thread. then double check that the ball that goes into the hole of the heatsink is centered and the bracket itself is flat and parallel to the motherboard. Proceed to screw in each side with 5 turns each. Make sure to get a good screw driver bit since you will encounter quite a bit of resistance towards the end. You can screw the bolts in so that they hit the stop. Then do the same for the other two bolts.

The great thing with this mechanism is that you will not be able to move the heatsink at all when you mount it properly. That ensure great contact. Only thing better would be to lap your heatsink/cpu. ;)

BTW, this will also ensure good flat mounting of the heatsink surface. I was able to get my core temps within 1c of each other, but YMMV.

thanks for the reply, im going to give it another try now that i know im not alone.

it was definitely a pain in the ass. but after doing it a few times, you get the hang of it.

got it on there. hopefully my cpu is fine. i get my memory on tuesday so ill know then.

i received my memory and am starting my overclock. ive pushed my 930 to 3.3 or so 153 * 21 and am running prime with core temps around 67 for core 0 and the others several degrees cooler. Is this an expected temperature reading with this cooler for this mild over clock. looking at the H review, i was expecting lower temps but maybe im just crazy. i left all voltage at default.

Hrm, I got cooler temps than that while at stock voltage. Mine didn't go above 55C.

Does your thermal paste need cure-in time? Have you tried washer modding it?

i used ocz freeze although i have some artic silver 5 and the stuff that came with the cooler.

what is washer modding it?
