i want to be able to swap tower coolers without taking everything apart. i can install the cooler on the mobo, and then install that into the case, but i want to be able to switch coolers if i have to without taking everything apart. im thinking about cutting some kind of hole in the bottom of the case, but i dont want to just leave it open. anyone ever encounter this and come up with a solution or have any suggestions for a removable plate in the bottom of the case that i can remove to get to the back of the mobo and then replace after? thanks.

Stock coolers/push-pin coolers shouldn't be a problem.

Most coolers using some sort of screw-retention have a backplate you install, where the backplate and screw studs protrude up through the motherboard.

You should be able to install/remove the above types of HS with the motherboard tray installed. You may have to put some tape or some cardboard beneath the backplate so it doesn't fall when you remove/install the heat sink, but I've never actually had to do this, probably because the Thermalright heat sinks I use have brackets above the motherboard that are mounted to the backplate below. These can stay in place when you install/remove the heat sink.
 
yeah i have a CM V8, which bolts the cooler straight to the mobo with a bracket on the back. i also have a custom CPU block made from a GPU block with a custom mounting bracket. both need to be fastened through the back of the i/o shield. i think i may just go with the water block, as then i can use the removable motherboard tray. if anyone has any ideas for a trap door in the bottom of the case, id still love to hear them.
