Installing a SSD for a n00b?

An old customer of mine has an older system, with an old 130 GB IDE HDD that was grandfathered from one machine to the next. Its still in working condition and there's nothing "wrong" with it other than its starting to feel slow next to newer drives, and the customer would like something faster. Given that the HDD they have now is only 130 GB and they only use about 30-40 GB of space at any given time on it, I'm thinking they'd be happy with a 128 GB SSD.

I have a Vertex 3 128 GB SSD, and after all the firmwares its finally rock solid. Part of me wants to sell my old drive to the customer for $100 and buy myself a newer 240 GB drive, but while firmware updates are no big deal for me, they'd be a massive PITA for a n00b. I cant sell them a drive they might get stuck needing to install firmware updates on in the future.

So, what rock solid, fast, 128 GB drive that could be had for around ~$100 (+ or - $30) should I offer them?
 
Since when did firmware updates become necessary?

Only a VERY tiny fraction of people ever update the firmware on their drive after purchase.

Just make sure it has the latest firmware on it before you give it to him and you should be good to go.
 
Get them the seagate xt hybrid drive and call it a day. No management to worry about and if the SSD part fails, the drive is still a good 7200 rpm spinner...

As long as their new machine has SATA ports, get them a 128GB SSD and be done with it. At their current level of usage, that gives them a lot of room to grow. Get them a Samsung 830, overall one of the faster and more stable drives around.
