Hey guys
I bought one of these for my DS3:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18623&vpn=ZM-NBF47&manufacture=ZALMAN TECH

But a question for installing it. On the stock heatsink there is a square pad that goes around the core, but the new heatsink doesn't come with this. Will there be a problem putting the new heatsink on? I don't want to crush the core! Would I be able to remove the pad off of the stock heatsink, and put it on the new one?

you should be fine.

the square serves mainly to prevent it from mounting crookedly

well, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to put the thing on centered. The holes for the ds3 northbridge are kind of funny. I can make them line up if I shift the zalman heatsink a few centimeters towards one of the holes. will this be a problem? I'm afraid it will put more pressure on one side than the other, or give uneven cooling...

There's a way to do it - try flipping the mounting arms over so they curve inward instead of outward. You don't have to get it exactly centered, just as close as you can. See my picture here:

thanks alot for that pic, it really helped. I had one of the metal arms flipped upside down, compared to yours, that's why I couldn't set it up like that.
the bottom of it got scratched up pretty good when I was trying to line up the holes with the stock heatsink. hopefully that won't affect things too much.

I did not use the square of foam tape off the original HS, and it still worked OK. Actually I was planning to use it but forgot to put it on. I think it also prevents shorting out the tiny chip capacitors aound the Northbridge chip should they touch the heatsink surface, but if the heatsink is sitting properly it is above the level of the capacitors (just barely but apparently this is enough).

Yeah the bottom of mine got scratched up moving it around trying to get it lined up too. I should have advised you to put a piece of tape over the HS undersurface while getting everything lined up, then remove the tape and clean off the residue before the final application of the thermal grease. But with the slight scratches my HS is still working well. Down by the base I can feel it is hot but up on the fins it is just warm so the fins are doing a good job of radiating the heat into the air.

I have a question. Will this NB HS fit on an asus P5N-E with a Tuniq Tower?
I would like to know if there'll be clearance issues.

It should, I'm going to put a ultra120 extreme above this heatsink, and it clears it. I believe the tunic has more clearance than the u-120, so you should be fine.

Got the nb installed, it's not perfectly straight, but I'm not going to remove and readjust those damn arms again :p It is more in line with the left and right of the motherboard though, rather than a 45 degree angle like before.
