installed evga 6800, then all hell breaks loose

i installed teh eVga 6800 regular from newegg , along with the vantec dual fan pci slot cooler pointing directly at it, i have good airflow through the case (2 exaust, 2 intake, 1 blowhole),

after its installed, games run fine, but far cry got laggy very bad, so i reinstalled with the copy that came with the video card, same symptop, i upgrade to the v1.1 , same deal.

doom3 plays fine,

computer starts to slow down, then key sporadicaly stop working, then many reboots and driver swapping later, the keyboard just stop working, ive tried swapping usb ports... nothing,

before all the crap started happening, the video card temp never reached above 70c

2.8ghz 800fsb asus p4p800 reg
2* 256mb pc3200c2
evga 6800reg (before had the ti4200 with zero problems)
80gb WD ide, 120 ide maxtor
350w (all voltages are on the money, no more than 1% verience)

what happened?

is this happening only in far cry? and about the teamp of the gpu, don't worry about it, 70c is nothing for ur gt, other people get higher temps, and did u try installing the v1.2 patch? the 1.1 is very buggy for the 6800 series i think..

I have minor problems with 1.1 on far cry. Didnt 1.2 only have problems for ATI cards?

I have the same card. I use far cry patch 1.2 and it works great.Type this in the console or you can edit the config file "\r_sm30path 1" and it will turn on beta sm 3.0 support

Sorry to be off-topic but I have a TI and am getting a 6800 regular for Christmas. What kind of performance increase did you see paulm?

the patches didnt fix anything, and rememeber i can't even use my keyboard, its experiencing some weird problems,

the computer and the periphrials are my problem now

OT: yup before the computer started giving me errors and BS, its a nice upgrade, but since ur upgrading in chirstmas, u might wanna go for the 6600gt in the sub $200 catagory to save some pennies

Egh, I don't really know. The 6800 looks like a great card. But about youre meltdown...maybe PSU?

It really sounds like the PSU. I had similar symptoms when I installed a second hard drive to my old 300w PSU. The mouse wouldn't even switch on because there was no power available and it reboots before it even gets to Windows.

Install Coolbits and try turning off Fast Writes in the Advanced Options. Sometimes this helps with stability issues.

You need a better power supply, that 350 wont cut it for a 6800NU . Get like a 450 or more. Good luck getting that fixed

i dont' think its the PSU as the problem, i swapped it with the ti4200 again, and same problems occur, then i put the 6800 back in , then the keyboard at least lets me type, but the keys bind up and press other keys,

have you tried going in safemode and using driver cleaner?
make sure you dont have any conflicts in device manager.

Don't be in denial! If it is a cheap power supply, 350 is not enough... Get a better PS. Games like Far Cry and Doom3 tax the video card and require stable power. I'd bet my left nut it is the power supply if everything ran fine until you put in the 6800.

actually this was a friends PC, and figured it was the old enermax 330w (12+v has 12a) was dying, so i threw in my 350w antec true blue, and works fine,

but 3dmark03 got = 8900
3dmark05 got = 2500 ,, <<wth? ive seen other results a helluva lot better than this,

my oced 6800nu runs fine on 250w psu. farcry runs smoothly with 1.1 patch.
3dmark03 scores is wat it should be, 3dmark05 will jump 20+% if u use 66.xx driver instead of 61.77.
