I'm doing a big favor for a friend of mine. He is reinstalling XP Pro and he doesn't want to redownload all the updates on his dial-up.

Fortunately, I have broadband and I was willing to download the updates for him and burn it to the cd for later use. The problem is how the heck do I do that? I heard it was mentioned somewhere along the lines of slipstreaming XP. I don't want to do that, just how to get the updates on a cd for installation (off-line).

I am assuming that my XP updates would work just as good as his.

Thanks.

Hrmmm...

Well using the Windows Update feature would be preferable since all those updates are selected according to specific system needs.

There is a place on the Windows Update site where you can select individual updates and download them as .exe or .msi files. But you have to select each one individually.

Personally, I would say "borrow" his tower and use your ethernet to install the updates for him and the give it back (that's what did... best soloution I found).

The site you can go to is...

0_0 dang... wont let me even view the windowsupdate site on SuSE... sorry, but I am sure you can find it if you browse around www.windowsupdate.com

Hope I helped!

Well, I'd begin by installing service pack one, which can be downloaded as a "network install" version which will not need internet connectivity to install.

Then, download the latest XP rollup update package, which I think is here:

Well, it's the new m6805 laptop and he is switching from an old dell desktop.

I am gonna just suck it up and download the RU1 and SP1a Updates for "network" installation (offline) and then download the rest on my network.

Thanks for all your help. :D

Thanks ALOT!!! This is one of those undiscovered valuable pieces of software....
