Is there any program/trick that lets you know what piece hardware device manager is giving you an exclamation point about? When device manager gives you warning, it's usually not very specific about what. It usually says PCI bus or something. How can I find out what exclamation point refers to?

I'm not sure of any tricks. Usually, if it's a system you built, you can figure it out by process of elimination.

Click on the 'Details' tab and Google the ID numbers you'll find there.

Usually it'll be a Midi and/or Gameport feature which isn't working under Vista, and disabling the features in BIOS setup will eliminate the unknown device entry from the Device Manager list.

If it is "PCI bus," you should be able to use your motherboard CD to update the controller. Just be in Device Manager and update the driver and have the CD in the tray. You should be okay.

OOps. Sorry. I'd was browsing a Vista specific forum when I made the above post, and got a tad disoriented. My suggestion is relevent to Vista. The comment made by protias is relevent to earlier Windows versions.
