I for the life of me can not get any flavor of ubuntu to install on my computer. tried from inside windows, from the live disk, AND from the alt disk. I've tried ubuntu (8.04, 7.something, and 6.06) Xubuntu 8.04, Kubuntu 8.04 (both kde 3 and remix4) alos mixing the x86 and 64 bit versions, yes I have wasted alot of disks. It seems to lock up in random places but always before the partition tool starts (or during it's start)

Hardware is as follows:
-AMD 64 X2 4200+
-Asus a8n32 SLI dlx (BIOS 1009 is what pops into mind as it's current rev)
-Two differant memory set ups, both as sets and solo sticks
-----2x1gb Gskill SD500 (these are known "iffy" waiting on RMA auth)
-----3x512 mushkin SD400
2x eVga 7800GTs (tried both at same time and solo alternating cards)
2 differant optical drives
2 differant HDs (both known good)
620 watt power supply

I've played around with linux kernal based stuff for a while now always on a second box. Now that I am ready to go both feet in this is a big WTF. It's almost like something in my set up hates Xserver, but it puzzles me that it is as random as it is.

Any help or sugestions are greatly appreciated

-thanky in advance

So it looks like you have windows already up and running on this box, so I would rule out a hardware issue right now. Have you tried any non-Ubuntu based distro?

downloading the newest openSuse ATM to see if that will work. my old suse disk that I found sent shiz into kernalpanic, was a 32bit version *shrug* I have played with this stuff, sadly never learning more then I absolutly had to to get what ever I was bored and fiddling with running. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Also, I forgot to say that the mouse moves freely when the lock up occors just no context curser changes, and no responce from keyboard ( no caps/num lock indicator change). have tried 2 keyboards with same results, one USB, one PS/2.

ok, tired killing Xserver with ctrl+alt+backspce. IF, and only IF I time it right I get 2 screen blinks into a full lock. if I come in late the keyboard is already locked solid.
