So every once in a while my pc will lock up and die in crysis. I overclock so i figured that is why, but i did some stability tests and it works just fine. I ran orthos(prime95) and RTIBL overnight and it worked just fine. no problems. gpu temp sat at 69*, while at 90% utilization. Cpu temp sat at 72 and 69*C(dual core). So now im confused. What could it be? what can i do? is it the game???(Wierd..)

any ways, here are my specs

p5k-e
E6550(stock cooling) @ 460fsbX7
2gb G.Skill ddr2-800mhz 1:1
512MB 3850 W/ ice3 cooler(Forget manufacturer)
450watt smart power antec psu
help!

P.S. some times it locks up(forcing a reboot) after 20 minutes, other times 3 hours.

If it's only happening in that game then it may be the culprit but if it's happening elsewhere then it may or may not be hardware/software related.

there's just a lot of possibilities so make sure first that it isn't the game. test out other games and if they lock up in the same fashion then go from there.

You're overclocking your RAM a bit. Try taking your bus speed down to 400. Also, you should probably run Memtest86+ overnight at stock clocks, timings, and voltage. See what pops-up.

Are you on stock cooling?

What are all your voltages?

What are you ram timings?

Do you have software set to log chipset temp for the motherboard?

And last have you used a digital multimeter on your power supply to watch for droop under load? not right away but after your pc has heated up to peak temps?
more heat= less output capacity.

okay here goes for an update...

went back to all stock settings, no OC at all

ALSO put on a zalman 9700 cpu cooler, so temps shouldnnt be an issue.

game STILL locks up, BUT the timedemo DOES NOT.

AND

Crysis is the only game this happens with...

SO.
i will reinstall crysis and see if that helps...time demo is gonnna run a bit longer befor ei do this...

It could be a graphics card crash, either from too much heat or too little power.
Can you check the temps and if possible try another PSU.

have a better psu, but it doesnt have the 6 pin connector....I will order a converter and go ffrom there...good idea..

no, i havent, but every thing is back to stock so that shouldnt seem to be a problem..

i THINK i have it figured out tho..

used riva tuner to force 100% fan speed and so far it looks good!

hmmmm
