I was raking through some old spares when i came across an old fan and i was wondering if i could place it in my case underneath the 3.5 bays without cutting holes in it.

The fan will be blowing inwards to help circulation so i don't know if this would be a problem.

Just wondering because i cant drill through the faceplate :(

Also would removing the pieces of metal that cover the back of the case where the pci cards would stick out make any difference to circulation?

Most cases either have holes or mounts for front intake fans. What case do you have? Any pics? What fans are in your case already?

No, removing the PCI covers will not improve circulation. Fans will.

take the faceplate off and drill on the bare metal case?

if it comes off...

Thanks for the replies, I couldn't tell you what case i have and my camera is broken.

I'll try drilling through the metal tomorow. It's just that the faceplate has two silver pipes running down the front and i cant really take them off :(

I'll give it a go and tell you how it goes.

Most, if not all cases allow you to remove the faceplate. See if there any way you can take it off leaving just the metal frame of the case.

Is this a newer case? An older case? How many fans are in there and where are they? I would be very suprised if this case was built within the past year or so and didnt have a front intake fan mount.
