Inside a Seagate 750GB External Drive

is the internal drive inside a Seagate External drive PATA or SATA interface?
perhaps the answer is different for different models, so lets talk about the particular model ST3750640CB-RK.

my plan would be to buy one of these external drives, 1) remove the internal 750GB drive and swap it with the 250GB IDE drive already inside my PC, and then 2) put the 250GB inside the enclosure i just removed the 750GB drive from.

so actually, i guess there is a second question here, too...

my first question about the drive inside being SATA or PATA refers to step 1 of my plan, where i assume that if the drive is PATA there is no reason i couldn't just put it into my computer and hook up the IDE cable.

the second question is, will putting the 250GB drive into the remaining enclosure result in a working 250GB external drive?

thanks for any help.

it will work, there's nothing telling the enclosure what drive to expect. and there's nothing telling the drive it can't work inside a PC.

I can't believe anyone would buy this drive. I was thinking of buying the 500GB, turns out the price of 2 x 300 GB is = the price of 500 GB. So the most cost effective pt. is aroudn 250 GB to 320 GB. Anything higher, you are paying more money per GB
