I put together a computer recently and the floppy drive doesnt seem to be working right. It shows in BIOS, but I set it to boot first and I inserted a disk and it wont try to boot from the floppy. I get into windows and it sees it but it comes up with a "Insert Disk into Drive" error. I checked the connections and it seems right. Anyone had this kind of problem or know how to solve it?
 
First off, are you trying to boot off an operating system located on the floppy disk?

And second, I'm wondering if you are dealing with a defective floppy drive. Personally, I say be gone with the floppy drive. They are such age old technology and useless for anything but a paper weight since the inception of the flash drive.

Well, the computer is not mine, and I agree. They are old, and dont work lots of the time..
No, I wasnt trying to boot from the floppy though. I was just testing for a No Boot error for having a non-boot floppy in the drive.
 
Durring the boot sequence, if there is no floppy in the drive OR a non-bootable floppy, the system will just move on to the next device in the list. The only way to test if a system is properly trying to boot from the floppy is to either place a bootable floppy in the drive or disable all other devices in the boot sequence in the BIOS efrectively forcing to system to only boot from the floppy and nothing else.

[edit] Actually theres another way to test. Disconnect the hard drives so there is no device connected that is bootable. But even this isn't a 100% test unless you actually place a bootable disk in the floppy drive.
