I've got an old Samsung 245bw LCD laying around with a anti-glare coat on it. If you touch the screen, it feels about as abrasive as a CPU or heatsink that has been lapped with 300 grit sandpaper. As an experiment, I'm thinking of getting some super fine 3000-10,000 grit paper and trying it on the surface to see if the look improves.
Technically, if using a high enough grit, it shouldn't really bite into the surface much if any, it should just make it smoother and less abrasive feeling and make the coating less obtrusive, at least in theory.
