Ok so My ol' trust P4 teh brok3n... and my HP just plainly sucks... so! IDEA with christmas coming up.... here's what i have put together for a not sucky gaming system but not $$$$ system either

Well, here are my recommendations, you may not like them but you asked for them ;)

I would go for a socket A board like this chaintech nforce2 ultra 400 but if you are dead set on athlon 64 at least look at a chaintech board... they are very good performers and very inexpensive.

ewww... Ive seen so many maxtors fail... I would personally never get anything other then WD or seagate for IDE drives, and to be honest there is no reason to get SATA unless you just WANT it, because even the newest drives cannot transfer data fast enough to take advantage of more then ata66 bus... even the WD raptors are PATA with a built in SATA adaptor, didnt know that did you?

Good choice, but if it was me I would go for ATI branded. personal preference nothing more.. cept id also go for a 9800PRO or better.

again, I would say ditch the a64 and go with a fast socket A... save the cash in a savings account and replace the mobo/proc later when it becomes boring with all the cash you saved and A64 stuff is cheaper... get something like a 3000+ or barton 2500+ and oc it to 3200+
good proc you chose if you do wanna go with a64 tho.

Go dual channel. use 2 of the exact same sticks of ram. much more memory bandwidth. get a couple of good low latency sticks, also get 1GB of ram. go with fast stuff. like what im getting, the PDP systems 2-2-2-5 timing 512MB x 2 stick kit. worth the money with the extra performance youll get.

Why koolance? sure if you want that's great! I just wanna get an in expensive enlight case w/ 350w psu included. the enlights are only around $50 and include a psu that actually isnt trash. then I can build my own waterkit myself later.
 
I'd go with a seagate hard drive...they're the company to get if you want sata, they have native sata drive support. Get a card made by ATI, don't get cards from companies that use their chips (my friends have had trouble with those), though asus has some good cards.

IMPORTANT!!!

Make sure you get a good power supply, i'd go with one made by Antec. Get a Solution Series or if you have enough money go for a TruePower. That should run the pc nicely.
Remember that the PSU is one of the most critical components of a computer so don't use the one from your HP.

How about this enlight case? Also the comp im on now is a athalon xp 3200... But for games It sucks... i dunno why... i think xp 3200 are barton cores right? any ways....

(i was going to consider a chaintech board but new egg doesnt have any 939 pinn chaintech's?)

OR if al of this sucks..... Tell me the RIGHT stuff to build a Good gaming PC for 900 or less
I alrdy have mouse,keyboard,moniter,Dvd drive,cd-rw,and a few 80 fan's and a 120 fan...
 
Yes, the power supplies in the enlight cases are actually on the same level as some of the really high name brand PSUs out there, that one should have plenty of horses for your setup. Also thats the case I was going to get for my own setup, well for its psu... Im going to make a mini system and prolly use the enlight psu included in the case you linked to to power the case... turning that black case into a case for a P3 dell Im buying with its PSU.

let me check out what chaintech has on their site...this sounds odd.
 
a quick search of newegg produced my second favorite brand of mobo as having a very very good looking mobo for 939, gigabyte
 
Well, it looks like chaintech doesn't make 939/940 mobos het. what a shame... but I am running a gigabyte mobo in my system right now and ive used them, and put hundreds of them into computers when I was head tech of a computer store for a year, and we never once had a problem with them, they are GREAT boards. fast, reliable, well built... just some of the socket A dont have the mounting holes including my current one, which is a royal PITA cuz I wanna mount an alpha PAL8045. ah well.
