I’m having problems with a brother inkjet printer, printing yellow. The sample “Print Quality Check” page prints a grid for each color. The yellow grid prints the first and a partial second line, but the rest of the yellow lines do not print. When I print a line of yellow text, the entire height does not print. It’s like there are horizontal white lines where it does not print. The other colors print the grid correctly.

I’ve used the cleaning utility and a new cartridge. I’ll update drivers, but I don’t know what else to do. Will it hurt if I take a qtip and clean out nozzle of the carriage (not the cartridge)? There is no alignment page, factory reset, or firmware to download. Can I do anything else?

I’m using USB in XP, and the printer has been sitting unused since about 2004.

Download a manufacturer pdf that has possible fixes (from the brother websites)...? (fixyourownprinter.com, inkjet(s)411.com, I've not visited either hardly at all so am unsure of the url...). Maybe someone that has fixed their inkjet recently will post...
