I can't afford a complete new system now, but pieces of my old rig still survive and are available to me for no cost. I'm thinking I may use this and upgrade the hardware at a later date.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (939)
Abit AN8 Ultra MB
2GB memory
nVidia 6800GT
I'd need to get a case, hard drives, optical, new video card, and power supply to get going. I'd kinda like to watercool this first to get a feel for it before building my new system, but I wouldn't want to have to repurchase the blocks. New system will likely be an Intel 45nm quad core of some type.
I plan to water cool the CPU and GPU at the least. Video card would likely follow from one system to the next, but I'm wondering if it's folly to try to use that old system for now or if I should just save my pennies and get what I really want to start. Are there any blocks that work equally well on socket 939 and 775 quad cores? Decisions, decisions, somebody help me make one, please. lol
