I have a machine that was given to me.

It's a Gateway box, PIII/700, 128MB PC100, Win ME, no AGP or Ethernet

I'm no expert on Windows-type machines.
What sort of graphics card would it take? What useful software can it run?

You could set up a dedicated server on it, heh..

Or host a diablo II realm :p.

Other than that, I don't see much other than older games or low req. games, or word-processing and the likes.

Aww...come one, there were some great games 5 years ago. :p

I'll probably just toss BSD on it and use it as an extra neck.

If your gonna toss *BSD on it, I assume you wont be playing games so any older PCI card should suffice. I'm using a nVidia TNT2 card on my FreeBSD server and it works great, well supported in X too, but I usually use the console :)

get a PCI MX440 or something...no need to get a top-of-the-line gfx card for that old clunker. Oh, and be SURE to remove winME before you do anything else.

Get a PCI Videocard, more ram, and install WinXP.

I'd agree on the GeForce4 mx440 PCI. Thats probably the best card/best priced for your needs. AND YES DUMP WinME
