Inherited an old gateway v. what to do

I just inherited a 500mhz p3 with 256 mb of ram and 2 hdd's one 20 and one 30. I dunno what i hsould do with it. I'm currently looking at an IT career (i'm 17) so i was thinking maybe try out a bunch of different os's or soemthing. I don't know. WHat do you guys htink i should do with it?

i was thinking giving gentoo another go, i always get this error on like the 4th command and give up

ive used ubuntu before i think ill put it on the gateway and learn how to install apps and such. Trying to get DSL on the pos comp, wont boot from the cd pos. I think the cd drive is a pos
