has anyone had any luck or experience adding an infiniband card to only do work against your SAN storage while also keeping IP networking going through ethernet? I need to move a lot of files around to and from a SAN device and among several machines but I don't want to have to deal with IP over IB.

thoughts?
 
Is this for a Windows Server 2012 RDMA solution? I think the list of native-support cards is relatively small.
 
It is my experience that IPoIB is easier to deal with then SRP.

I used NFS over RDMA to solve a similar problem as the one the OP described.
 
sorry for the late reply, was travelling. This is for windows 2008 R2 and a couple newer 2012 servers. I haven't started the implementation yet but I'm looking at hardware. QDR infiniband is getting stupid cheap now so we are going to use that everywhere within the network.

one side note to this that I am wondering. With multiple computers connected to a SAN and doing block level RDMA and such, how the heck do they all manage the blocks without stomping all over each other?

Also, initially we were just going to connect the SAN via infiniband but we are actually considering swapping out the ethernet stuff for infiniband as well.
