ok, my radeon 9100 128mb card just isn't cutting it anymore. i am looking for a decent video card under $150 (i don't wanna spend more on a card that i won't be able to use in my next computer). should i just buy a radeon 9600xt and use that or is there a better card out there?

I'd look for a used 9800 Pro over at the FST forum. I just sold one for $150 shipped to Canada...

all the 9800 pros i've found in the FST forum today have been around $200 :(
 
you might try the for sale section of hardforums.. lots of good deals to be had.

try a 5700, or a 9600... or wait for a nvidia 6600 agp card.

i plan to play doom 3, half-life 2, need for speed underground 2, and call of duty united offensive for right now.
 
look for something like a 9500-9700 pro card the under $150 or use your current card and your cash and do somekind of trade if possible or sell your so u have more cash to add to your video card fund

hah! and u were gonna get a 9600xt... umm 9800pro is the way to go and to these titles decently espcially doom3 and hl2.. if i were u i would go for the 6800nu for 250 but i guess its out of ur budget ans try to find a cheao 9800pro 256bit
 
I would not get anything lower then a 9800 Pro. I would buy a 6800nu off ebay though.
 
hey brother, i would go with a fx5700-fx5900 best bang 4 the buck

browse all the forums you know of fs/ft sections and put up a few wtb and list a 9800 keep your eyes on the fs forum like a hawk. Use the search and pm somebody in an old thread if they didn't sell their 9800 a while ago and offer them a lower price if they just want to get it out. I've had parts sit for six months and never do anything with them

i emailed a guy on the anandtech forums and put a wtb thread here. just need to hear something back on either one. i do thank everyone for their help though, i really appreciate it.
 
how much do you want for the old card? i might be able to take it if you'll accept less than $50 (it's all i got... sorry.)
