INcreasing core voltage

Why would increasing the core voltage help stabalize an OCed proc? Also is there like a rule of thumb when it comes to increasing the core voltage.. like X volts per Y Multiplier.. or something like that?
 
it needs more jucie to run past stock

no rule of thumb since all cpus are differant
ex.
even if you have a 2.4C and i have a 2.4C i could get it to 3.2@ stock vcore and you could only get it to 2.6 @ stock
no cpu is made the same

just up the vcore until you are stable in prime 95

but if you have intel dont go above 1.7v
