I recently purchased a Dell Latitude X300 off Ebay, and as with all systems I purchase, I need to reinstall Windows (for security reasons and because the load that came with this laptop was total crap). Unfortunately, once Windows 2000 is done loading up files, it does not see the hard drive and gives me an "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" error. I think the 2000 CD doesnt recognize the hard drive. How can I make it recognize it on load so that I can make an image?

Thanks!

get grc's spinrite and check the drive

best of luck

edit: also - if its sATA it could be the driver
but it wouldnt give you that error - it would just say that there isnt anywhere to install to...
u could try getting an sATA driver for win2k and do the F6 as win2k starts loading up the installer

The XP load that came with it works, the hard drive is not faulty. The load that came with it just has a bunch of shit on it, so I want to reinstall.

Try running diags (F12 during post) just in case the hdd is failing. Also to try and fix the installation, you could try running fixboot from the win2k recovery console

As I already stated:

THE HARD DRIVE IS GOOD.

ahem. Anyways, I got it to load a XP home image. The 2000 loader doesnt recognize the IDE controller, thats all...

if an admin wants to close this, go for it. I got it working...
