In-Win K1 Thin Mini ITX case

I saw this recently and was intrigued by it.

Has anyone here used or seen this case? I've read it's for Intel's Thin Mini ITX form factor, which I didn't know about.

Can it use a regular ITX MB like the ECS H67H2-I? I would probably put a i3-2105 in it.

At 1.8" tall total, it's unlikely to support "full" ITX. There are very specific boards and heatsinks (with corresponding thermal constraints) made for that form factor.

That sounds ideal, but would defeat the purpose of "thin mini-ITX". Compared to mATX, mITX is still somewhat immature and offers a limited selection of motherboards. IIRC, thin mini-ITX was unveiled at Computex 2011, so the options are even more limited (Intel, ECS, MSI). Plus, you're limited to a 65W thermal envelope for these types of cases (no monster power rigs).

I'm starting a new HTPC build this week with the Intel DH61AG, Intel Core i5-2400S and Lian Li PC-Q05. I'm hoping that this build will pare down my existing Antec ISK build to something more robust than say an Antec Revo or Shuttle XS35. There's a guy over on the AVSforums that modded one to house the Ceton CC tuner, but I'll probably use my USB version instead.

It's not proprietary, it's an open form factor developed by Intel. There are Thin Mini-ITX boards from a variety of manufacturers. Granted, nowhere near as many as for vanilla Mini-ITX, but the latter has been around much longer (VIA introduced it in 2001).

That's true, as a formalized form factor specification using the name "Thin Mini-ITX," but boards using the form factor have been around for a few years (e.g., the Intel D945GSEJT was released in 2009).

Yeah, but I really meant motherboards apart from nettops. The Intel solution gives you the same form factor as a thin client, but you're not limited to an Atom processor. This way I can leverage Intel Quick Sync for transcoding as well as HD playback.

I emailed In-Win's customer service back in February, they said it would probably come out some time in March... So I wouldn't hope my breath waiting for it. I already bought Lian Li's thin-itx case intended for the DH61AG motherboard.

I saw it for sale (NIB) on a different forum and it piqued my interest. However, I also don't feel like buying another MB just to fit a case.

It's quite possible, I mistakenly thought this thread was for their newer HTPC model http://www.in-win.com.tw/K1/new.html

which IMO, is a lot nicer looking then the other one which looks very industrial looking
