in video games...you kno in the begining where they show their Logo/Trademark thingy...before it takes you to the main menu.

i always see it advertising or popping up stuff saying "nVidia the way its meant to be played" and then their logo pop up. like in vampire the masquerade bloodlines it has a vampire sucking the blood from nvidia logo lol...

well my question is...how come i never see it advertising ATI like that? is it because im using nVidia thats why it pops up or is it just part of the game..say for them ATI users do you have an ATI advertizement instead? just curious

There are games with ATI like that...I just can't think of any off the top of my head.

nvidia helps pay for the production of the game and probably gives them a tonne of 3d cards during the process in return for the logo at the start of the game and hopefully an engine suited towards their products. Its just normal marketing. ATI has a few games like that but Nvidia has far more.

I knew a friend who was a programmer for a biggish FPS and nvidia gave them a bunch of 6800's when they were still weeks before getting to the shelves to help swing the company towards their products, not a bad thing when you consider it ends up helping alot of us.

Black and White 2 flashes a big ATI logo at the beginning. It's all about who pays to associate their logo with a game.

NV has more money to do so.

As for ATI... a game off the top of my head is the newest Tribes game based off the last Unreal engine... there was a giant ATI logo as you loaded the game. Ran like crap and looked like crap.

you talking bout tribes vengeance? because it ran on full settings for me with my unlocked 6800NU and looked awsome. it does however advertise ATi like you said.

I remember playing it with SLI 6800 GT's.

It ran Smoothly alright... but I couldn't imagine 1600x1200 with a single card.

As for looks, this was post half life 2 and doom3... it was simply a step backwards.

when eq2 first came out it played a lot better on ati but it has the nv logo thingy

Way back Nvidias own graphics demos used to run better on ATi cards. Like others have said it's all about marketing. Sometimes there will be optimizations here and there but they're usually written into the graphics card drivers and not the game itself unless it's an exclusive feature like hardware based HDR like in Splinter Cell chaos theory (back when only Nvidia had it on there cards)
