Improve Wireless Card Speed?

My internet connection is 16 Mbps down.

When I do a speed test on my laptop over wifi I get that full speed, however when I do the same speed test in the same location on my desktop over wifi I get about 7 Mps down.

I am using a WMP54G adapter with an upgraded 7 dBI external antenna as seen here: http://is.gd/cGCGh

Upgrading the antenna helped but I’m obviously still short of my full connection speed.

What do I need to do in order to get the full 16 Mbps down on my desktop? I really don’t think upgrading to a bigger antenna is going to do the trick since my laptop is able to get the full speed and it uses a regular antenna. If I’m wrong let me know.

Should I get a different internal adapter? Should I use a USB wireless adapter instead? Should I get a larger antenna?

Thanks in advance

I fixed the problem.

The card I was using was a wireless G card, I simply upgraded to an external USB wireless N card.
