Hey guys, I'm gettin a 17" powerbook very soon and am gonna be new to the Mac world.

What are some die-hard, you swear by em, can't live without em programs you use??

Here is my list:

NetNewsWire - RSS Reader... A real time saver!
Proteus - All in one instant messenger. Sort of like Trillian for the PC. AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, Jabber support
Transmit - FTP program
VLC - Video player. Plays divx and what not.
Azureus - Bittorrent client.
Colloquy - IRC program
Poisoned - Similar to Kazaa
SideTracker - If you could only download one program this is the program to download! The program adds many features to the trackpad that are not available by default. Such as vertical scrolling, horizontal scrolling, right clicking, assigning corners to whatever command you want, etc.

All of the programs can be downloaded via VersionTracker.

I second Transmit and VLC

And I add

CandyBar - fast way to change all of your icons
MacJanitor - for running the 3am maintenacne sripts whenever
PodWorks - for direct copying of music off your ipod (or someone elses ;))
Toast - cd burning app
BB Edit - awesome text editor
Konfabulator - for cool shiney/noisy things to clutter up your desktop
DragThing - sometimes the dock just is not big enough

Thanks so much guys!

Thanks ESPECIALLY to PodWorks...

What if my iPod is set to "windows mode" will it still work?

i've had it since last christmas and am only just getting a mac

If your mac mounts it, podworks can read it too. Which it should since my ipod bounces between my macs and pcs a lot.
