Let me start off by saying that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this case and would highly recommend it to anybody (that can afford it;)). I just got my case in on Monday and have spent 3 days trying to install my computer. The back panel of the mobo tray slightly pulls the video card forward (about 1/8th of an inch), just enough so that one of the pins in the pci-e connector doesnt make contact and was stopping my computer from posting.

If you have this case and are having issues, this is a possibility.

If you are wanting to buy this case, BUY IT. Just be forewarned that you might have to bend the back panel a little to that it doesnt pull the gfx card or any other pci card out of socket.

I still am very happy with this case and would buy it all over again. I just wanted to provide a heads up on this issue in case anybody else has the same symptoms (randomly not posting).

just fyi, there is a review on newegg where a guy posted a review with the same symptoms and led me to discover i was having the same problem and it wasnt my case or my psu.

This has been an ongoing issue with the Stackers and has been discussed a lot on the Coolermaster forums if you want to check them out. The original 830's mobo tray/expansion slots were so bad that many people had to send them back to CM for replacement.

I've had both the first and third generation 830 and always had to massage the 8800GTX's a bit before they'd fit properly in their slot - or else, you're right, your system won't boot.

I ended up getting rid of both my Stackers in favor of something "better" looking??? I got tired of looking at that space-ship looking contraption under my desk. ;) Also, the side panels could be better designed because they can be funky to take on and off - plus they rattle at times.

My problem now is that I've somehow ended up with a Lian Li v1000b Plus II, v2100a Plus II, Silverstone TJ-09BW and Antec P190 within the last two weeks. Question now is: which one(s) to keep?

Nonetheless, the Stacker is a great cooling case. It had better temps on air than most everything else I've used and it's not as loud as you'd imagine considering how open the case is.

BTW, CM doesn't advertise this feature at all, but look on the bottom of your case by the mesh opening . . . did you know that you can mount two more 120mm fans there?!?!?! As if this case needed more fans, right? Nice feature to have anyways!

As for affording the case, they're pretty reasonable now since I've seen several places have the at $100 to $150 (case only) after MIR. At that price, they're a steal.

Anyhow, enjoy the case.

i tried registering on their forum but my account is "waiting for administrator approval" or something like that.

i just talked to their tech support and they are going to ship me a new mobo tray. you think a new one will fix the problem?

Also, what kind of massaging did you have to do to get the gtx to work properly on the tray?
 
Wow, it's still bad enough on their latest generation case to warrant an RMA? They were supposed to have that fixed already . . . that's a shame.

As for my "remedy" . . . I go through A LOT of computer gear every year during my annual upgrade. I went through 4-5 versions of the 8800gtx (XXX, ACS3 KO, Ultra, etc.) and it had actually gotten to a point where I had one GTX which (I think) had its backplate tabs bent JUST RIGHT so that it would allow it to fit right in. Everytime I got a new GTX, it would inevitably never fit . . . so I ended up swapping that one backplate to each new GTX that I got and that was the easiest way for me to get it to fit.

It's kind of a "ghetto mod" but that's what worked best for me. Hope that helps a little.
 
ya, i was kinda surprised that something small like that would prevent my entire system from working

i really am not too sure how a new mobo tray might solve the problem, unless they redesigned/fixed it and have not been shipping them with the cases. i dunno, i will let you know when it gets in if it fixes the problem
 
I just went throught this exact problem getting my computer to post with a 8800gt. goddamn frustrating lol. ended up not fully screwing down the video card after having inserted just right.
 
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you guys . . . that's what I did sometimes too - I just left the card plugged into the PCIe slot without screwing down the screws on the expansion slot. Works fine as a temporary solution since I don't move my computer around much (or at all).
 
but how does the card get support if you dont screw it down? i'm afraid that the weight of the card will damage either itself or the mobo without the support of the back panel
 
I think the problem is more on the GTX than the case.

I didn't have a problem with my 830, but in the prior case 'massaging' was the only way to get that particular card to fit.
 
I didn't have this problem with my Stacker 830 and two 8800GTX's in SLI.
 
i finally got it working, after 5 days of working and troubleshooting. I have to leave the gtx completely unscrewed, which i dont like too much. there is almost a 1/4 inch gap between the card and the back panel. i wonder if the replacement tray coolermaster is sending me will work any better than the one that came with the case?
 
to OP: how is it that out of all the forums I read, I find you labop! jk glad to hear you found a temp solution.

Make sure you are using spacers and that your mobo is shoved as close to the back panel as possible. I remember my vid card not being a perfect fit, I had to very slightly bend the back panel about 1/8th of an inch (not the card), creating a tiny bit of tension when my vid card was screwed in, but otherwise there were no issues with PCI cards. I used a Maximus Formula with an eVga 8800gtx, and a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer.

The CM 830 is an all-around great case. If I had to nitpick a bit,

* I wish the side panels could be secured with a screw because optical drives can cause them to rattle a bit.

* The hard drive cage is not as well designed as the other parts of the case, particularly in regards to how to pull it in and out. I played HD shuffle 6 or 7 times, and once time I mismatched the right and left sides of the attaching dampeners. The cage went in ok, but when I had to remove it, I spent about 15 minutes scratching/scraping the inside of the bay to wedge that bastard out.

* The front door hinges should be a bit stiffer, or there should be a way to keep it propped open.

There's no perfect case.

lian li a701 is near perfect mate. the only downside i heard is that he power and reset button are cheaply made but besides that, its perfect
 
Link, I can't find that exact model. The models similar to the one you mentioned don't have front ports.
 
Has anyone figured out any solutions to combat the side panel rattling? It's the only thing about this case that I dislike, but adjusting the panels is only a temporary fix.

Don't troll. :eek: I have a Lian Li case, it rattles too. PC-75, it was not a cheap case.

You can bend the tabs a little on the panel or get some of that anti vibration foam and stick some of that on the panel from the inside.
