I'm going to be getting a new drive in the mail within the next couple of days. What I want to do is move what's on my current drive (Vista installations, programs, etc.) onto this new drive. I'm fairly certain that if I were to use Acronis True Image to make an image of the disk I have now, I would be able to do what I want. The question I have, the new drive is bigger than the one I currently have, if I put the image onto the bigger one is it going to just create a partition the same size as the smaller one? Or is it just going to take up the space it needs and just leave the rest empty?

Any imaging program I've ever used allows you to set the size of the target drive/partition. You also could wait until you have the new drive, and just clone the data across to the new drive, and then remove the older drive.
