Images + Music = Mini Video?

Moviemaker2 is simple and works great, as stated. My son uses it all the time for class projects and making small 5-15 minute vignettes.
Powerpoint can also make standalone presentations with music, and there are a number of "scrapbook" and slideshow programs out there that will let you do the same thing with a simpler interface. But I'm not familiar with them at all because I own moviemaker2 and powerpoint.

Using a video editing program can be a little overwhelming if you just want a photo slideshow with music. I do a lot of video editing with Pinnacle Studio... but if I was doing a photo slideshow, I'd use something else.
You need a program where you just select a bunch of photos and have it create a slideshow with music...
MemoriesOnTV is a great program, and you can download a free trial. It lets you create a slideshow, use pan and zoom effects with many different transitions, and burn to CD or DVD all in one program.

What about moviemaker 2 do you find confusing?
Import your images into a collection.
Drag the images into the timeline (I always use timeline mode and not scene mode) - they arrive there with a default display time of 5 seconds. To increase or decrease display times, click and drag an edge of the clip in the timeline. To cross fade images, drag one image partially over another. The length of overlap is the speed of the crossfade. To change a simple crossfade into something else (shatter, wipe, etc) select the "transitions" item from the menu and drag it down to the transitions bar in the timeline.
To add music, first add it to a collection again, then drag it into the "music" bar below the timeline.
To add titles, select the titles menu item and follow the prompts to either add titles over a clip or at the end of a clip.
Render to disk, then use a DVD burning program to copy it to a DVD.
Just don't want you to have to needlessly spend money when you have a perfectly good tool already on your system.
