Hey all,

I just recently purchased the Gateway FPD2275W 22" widescreen monitor:

Contrast Ratio 700:1
Pixel Pitch .282mm
Resolutions 1680 x 1050 (native and maximum)
Response Time 5ms

So far so good but when I'm playing games like counter strike or fifa there tends to be tearing especially when the image on the screen is dark (if im in a dark room in the game or something).

I turned on v-sync but it doesn't appear to help - there's still tearing.
The monitor's max refresh rate is 60 Hz.

Any ideas on how to fix the tearing?

I don't know, but from my experience with my 19" lcd is that it could be that your graphics card or whatever you use could be underpowered, and the resolution that you are running is hard for the card to hold steadily. Also, mine tearing in game stopped when I got a newer power supply, mine was aging and not quite up to spec.

Are you sure that you've enabled Vsync?

There is a pulldown in the CS:S options menu for vertical sync that should be set to enabled, but you also need to make sure that you don't have your video control panel set to override this choice and force vsync off.

A good way to test if vsync is on and working properly would be to download and install FRAPS (www.fraps.com) and enable the on screen FPS counter. Now fire up CS:S and watch the FPS counter - if it goes over 60fps then vsync isn't enabled properly.
