iMac uses? Any ideas?

Long story made short, work was going to throw away a perfectly usable iMac because they got a new one, so I salvaged it instead. Fry's wasn't that helpful with the memory setup, they kept selling me the wrong junk. So after an afternoon of getting it to work..160MB of memory in a 266Mhz MacOS X version 10.3 is what I've got. My old logitech two-button mouse with scroll-wheel works fine with it, too. Yay? Anyways, that's that. Any ideas? Or should I just take it to the local pawnshop?

Find a local underprivileged family to donate it to so their kids have something to do their homework on? That box would be perfectly fine for for word processing and the like. :)

They're still underprivileged if they can't play HL2! Just kidding; this or a trip from the top of a tall building both sound good.

why waste it like that when you can give it to someone else who can't afford a computer?

Donate it to a family, but dont donate it to a school. School children will treat it like shit because they are disgraceful pissants.

Aren't most children "school children?" Would that make all children "disgraceful pissants?"

My vote goes for philanthropy.

One way or another donate it if you are going to trash it. If you are a web dev you could use it as a simple testing platform for Safari.

Makes some plastic explosives (google is your friend) or napalm and pack it full, attach some wires to it, and leave it in a large field.Run FAR away and blow it up. (might want to stand behind some kind of shield or duck)

Nothing against macs. Would be cool though.

I got a free "grape" iMac once. I put the iMac mobo in an mATX case (ok, so that was a waste) and built an Athlon setup in the iMac chassis. Of course I had to swap the CRT for a 14" LCD, as there's no way in hell I could fit a decent mobo in the space the iMac logic board took up. Plus the CRT was having problems, which was the reason the original owner tossed it to begin with.

Eeee..how do I take screenshots with macs? Is it the same as just "prt scr" for windows? Where would I paste it? All I've done is a digicam shot, and it came out horrible with the lines. Sorry to keep this thread so negatively-updated :( .

Edit: Nevermind..got it. And you know what? My dad needs a computer that we can let him touch without breaking it, so the thing might be staying in the family for a bit.

You're wrong about that. When its a school, the kids dont feel its theirs and so they treat it like crap. Adults do this in the workplace as well. Thats why offices tend to not have very nice coffee makers, microwaves, etc.

If its at home then the parents could at least monitor the use.

A few years ago I read an article/letter to the editor/commentary or such in (I think) PC World about how a PC nerd bought his mom an iMac just because he couldn't be tech support for her (distance involved) and the fact that she was not computer literate to start with. He said it worked out well and made it easy on both of them to stay in touch via email. If your dad hasn't used a comp much before, an iMac might just be his speed for now. :)
