Right now i have an nvidia pci5200 card..... and have horrible framerates.......
Im playing joint ops, halo, etc on really low levels, and getting less than decent frames....
When i get my x800xt,, ill get ammazing framerates at the highest settings.... But im so used to bad frames and settings, it gonan be wierd.... Itll make me feel like i am in a good area to get a smooth fps, like i get once an awhile....
It like those amputee's that feel the leg still there.... itll be the same to me...
IM SCARED OF THE CHANGE!! :(

lol, I went from a GF2 to a 9600xt, I have to tell ya, it was a little scary at first... :p

you sound like me when i played BF1942 with a voodoo5 5500 (thru emulation of HWT&L). I gave up on it and bought a geforce4 TI4200 128mb 8x agp version. The differance was.... wow

goin from a voodoo2 on a 166mhz pentium to a gf2mx on a 950mhz athlon was pretty insane, and then going to a 4200 was really awesome, and then going from that to a 2.7ghz p4 with a 9800pro was unbelieveable, but i think going from a 5200PCI to an X800pro beats all of my transitions...

my p2 350, voodoo3 to my curreny system with a ti4400 was a giant step for me.

definately scary. i was still playing games "cautiously" being careful not to quickly run into a room with tons of special effects in case of some collosal crash

my transition was from a radeon 7000 to a radeon 9800 pro. i remember noticing how i could now see the detailed arrows flying from towers in WC3 and i couldn't before.

Going from a voodoo 3 2000 pci to a geforce 3 was a scary transition for me... because my framerates went *down*.

This was in Half-Life and Diablo 2. The voodoo may have had crappy image quality but it was fast!

going from a 333 with a voodoo 2 8mb to a 1.2 Athlon with a geforce 2 ultra was pretty sweet.

Wow that's a HUGE jump. The Geforce FX 5200 is better than a Radeon 7000. Although not by much.

The biggest jump for me was from a 9600Pro to a X800Pro.

Your ability will be inhanced tremendiously.
I experienced that same thing with the flight sim IL2 FB,. I couldn't hit shi...........Got a 9800pro and got good quik.

it might mess my aim up, i have my muscles set to shoot a little ahead or somthing.... Mayeb fps games with bad fps makes me try harder, and when i have good fps, ill be a lot beter than people who never had bad fps :)

what a funny thread.

voodoo3 2k-
voodoo 5 that was big jump
radeon ddr vivo (maybe a 7k it was before teh numbers)
ti4400-jedi knightoutcast played a million times better
9800p-battlefield played like a dream
6800gt- not that big of a jump since no games i play really pushed my 9800p

Don't worry, you get used to it.. And intolerant to poor framerates. That is the other side of the coin.

Have you tried SpellForce? ;) It hammers my 9800 Pro like no other games does, not even FarCry.

I went from a TNT2 Ultra to a GF3 ti200 overclocked to ti500 speeds. That was a huge jump. Now I'm waiting for my x800pro, which will upgrade the GF3. I don't upgrade video cards all that often. Before the TNT2, I had a Matrox M400 and an original Voodoo before that. :)

I went from onboard to a 9800 pro.
IL2 Forgotten Battles in perfect mode hammers mine ..........with every thing up 12-18 FPS.

The beat water ... by far . Better than FarCry . Pacfic Fighters and BoB Battle of Britain are supose to be even more demanding,

Hurry up X800XT.

My my first card was an ATi Rage Pro ...jumped to Voodoo 3 3000...amazing graphics but then the card kept fscking up...so changed to Matrox G400 32SGRAM DH...performance dropped like a rock lol...then changed to a 9200...and bam...performance went up like a rocket...now using 9800 PRO :D

when you sit at your computer desk area make sure you line the floor with newspaper and towels .. and don't forget the computer its gonna be soaked in the most vile ....

PISS AND SHIT when you see far cry running at its best!!! ENJOY!!! :D

I went from one of those shitty ATI Rage 2mb cards to an AIW 9700pro... I swear, I almost seizured :D

The scariest thing for me was running quake 1 in glide mode with my voodoo banshee...i was speechless for days. i upgraded from a riva 128zx card. Then from teh banshee, i went to a gf2mx.

I'm on a rollercoaster. I sold my 9800xt last week, had to put in my old radeon 7000 in until my 6800gt gets here!

God I loved that combo :) All off a sudden, Quake looked like it was supposed to... That was my first upgrade... ever. Those replaced the no-name crap that came with my Quantex. It's actually still running in my parents machine :D

Oh man, other people had that combo...all of the sudden I don't feel so old. I actually had the Matrox G200 (?) and a voodoo 2- the V2 is still sitting in my closet. It's amazing the silly stuff that has some sentimental value.

I hear ya. Those 2 are actually my only old video cards that are still alive. All the others are in my component graveyard. I'm going to shadowbox them all and have little plaques with name, age and cause of death on them :) They will be a good artwork in my computer room.

You folks are making me nervous...

My new 2.8C/Neo2 combo just arrived, got the 9700 Pro last week - been using an 800P3 @920 w/Voodoo 3 forever. Just the card alone almost knocked me over my chair.

Should I take a Valium b4 I fire her up?

Banshee to a radeon 7200(back then it was just the radeon 64mb ddr vivo :p ) was ok, but the best was from the 7200 to a 4600... good times.

Here is was a SIS 6205 non 3D 1mb video card to my S3 Savage 4 32mb card

I was like "Wow doomII doesn't skip anymore" :D

I can't resist...

I don't skip more than one generation. Here's the breakdown:

512k (Yes K - 1994 and consumer 3d was still ~2 years away) VGA that I don't remember manufacturer
2mb S3 Virge - The first true 3d capable card - man did it look great at the time, esp in Mechwarrior 2 ;)
4mb Riva128 - wasn't great until Nvidia release OpenGL capable driver
32mb Geforce2 GTS - best bang for the buck card I've bought - BB competitor pricematch (error at that) for $129 when they were $299
128mb Geforce Ti4600 - still using and barely showing its age
--Soon-- 256mb 6800GT (or 6800 if I can't take the wife into the extra $100 :p)

I went from a 1 ghz p3 laptop with rage 128 pro to whats in my sig. HUGE jump =). Beofre that it was a Mac 300mhz G3 witha voodoo2 card .

The last release of a beta OpenGL driver for the voodoo allowed me to squeeze some extra life out of it ....

Ha and MechWarrior2 owned!

Going to get a 6800 Ultra now and then jump to PCI-Express / AMD 64 bit next summer ...

I went from a geforce 2mx to a 9600xt. Didnt notice much difference at first but then when my 9600xt started having problems I had to change back my gf2mx. The graphics on the gf2mx looked so bad I didnt play any games except for cs during that period. When i finally got my 9600xt to work again it was like i was in heaven

GeForce 2 Ultra to X800 XT PE here... needless to say I am excited, and I am holding off of gaming on my Ti 4200 interim card so I don't spoil the fun.

Still, I think the biggest difference will be the quality with hige resolutions and all the goodies... for once.

Went from an onboard Rage 3D chip with 8mb (no AGP slot of course), to a 9700NP. Damn.
