can somebody help me out, i have no idea how to overclock at all. wondering if i could get some input, or a link on how to get my rig safely up to 3 ghz.

If you don't know what you're doing, I wouldn't risk it.
 
Its easy bro, nothing to worry about. These new cpu/mbs have protection to keep you from messing them up so don't be scared.

There are 3 things you can mess with before getting into the voltages.
1. CPU multiplier
2. Frontside bus speed
3. Memory ratio

1. First decrease your memory ratio(this is the FSB to memory speed ratio) so it is below 800
2. Start increase your Frontside bus to 333mhz ( 9(multiplier)x333 = 3.0ghz)
3. If your system doesn't boot up, then you failed the overclock. Shut the system down completly. Wait a few minutes and reboot. The board should bring you back to stock settings, if it doesn't then reset the bios by removing the watch battery and unplugging the power.
4. If it does reboot then go into the bios and drop your CPU multiplier to next lower setting and see if your computer boots up.
5. If it does reboot then let it load into windows and run orthos (google to download) for at least 12 hours for stability assurance.
6. If you are stable per orthos then increase your FSB a little at a time until your not stable per orthos.
7. Lots more you can do, but best way to learn is to mess around with it.

Also, try the overclocking section, good tips and helping people there. I will watch this thread incase you run into trouble
 
so if i change the fsb to 340, and the ratio to 2, i should be good right? and on step 4, you say to drop the cpu multiplier, wont that make my speed less than 3ghz, since i plan on doin 340, if you multiply it by the next lowest one it wont equal 3 ghz right? or am i a even bigger noob than i think i am? couldnt i just leave it at 340x9?
 
Oops, I meant to say "if it DOESN"T reboot" on step 4, so if you don't hit your target of 3.0 it is still better to have highest FSB possible and lower the multiplier. See you aren't a noob, you know what you are doing so go at it and let us know what happens.
