am i the only one who thought farcry wasn't worth the cd's it came on?
.......:D

Silly me I actually thought you had the game for a second. Ok so Doom3 will rock. You missed out on a good game though.

Haha, I havn't quite decide yet if I'll be doing a Doom 3 induced upgrade or not. I was already thinking of doubling or tripling my ram (I'm running 2x256mb DDR dual channel now) so I might do that, or I might upgrade my video card...but if I do that I'll be waiting for some shifts in the pricing schemes so that I don't need to drop out of univeristy or quit drinking or anything :p

What's your specs now? Maybe we can help. :)

Also, any amount of RAM over 1GB is un-necessary (for home-users, of course). JMHO.

yeah that card's got me looking to nvidia again...
Far Cry is ok - I personally hate the games that dont allow you to pick a key to TURN left or TURN right instead of the annoying side step. This is a computer not a gaming console.
Just think if everyone couldnt turn but had to side step in real life...
Just annoying that I can't set up my game moves properly - after all I paid for the game, give me the choice. I hope Doom ]|[ is like its predicessors that allowed me to turn...

I dont know if I'm ready to commit to a new video card yet either. I've had my ti4200 for about a year and a half and I think it was one of the best buys I've ever made. I'm not really sure if i really need a newer card. While I'd like to play doom3 in all its splendor, i dont think i want to spend $250cnd on a 9600xt thats allready pretty outdated. I might wait till hl2 comes out cuz thats what i'm really looking forward to and by then hopefully prices will go down. And on the other hand i want to get some 5.1 speakers but that'll set me back 200+.

oh what to do?

Could you post a link to this info?

Yeah, Far Cry came bundled with the card...fun game, but got kind of annoying towards the end.

Annoying, that's a bit too nice of a word to use, but a fun, decent game overall.

but on the other hand....

I'M READY FOR DOOM 3!!!!!!!

robot6800sm.jpg

The 12205 3DMark03 score (PNY 6800GT - 410/1100 oc) made me go crosseyed, any faster and I'd have "gone to plaid" (Spaceballs reference).

Yes...I'm doing the robot. :D

My 9800 should be sufficient enough until the 512meg card comes out. So I am ready....

That's what the mouse is for!

It is not required to wear a grounding strap around your wrist. I am grounded, just attached the strap elsewheres

:D

I had a PNY 6800nu for a week before returning to order a different brand. For some reason that card had poor 2D quality at 1600*1200 85hz compared to a TNT2 card or any other card I've used on a Sony 21in e500 to e540 CRT.

Though, while I had the PNY, the performance rocked even when not overclocked. In Far Cry, while the highend framerate wasn't as good as a X800pro that I had for a while, the min framerate was still the same, so those tough outdoor spots, like when you first walk outside in the training level, I got 26fps at 1280*960 with low AA and medium AF, just as good as the X800pro, except on the pro you could raise the AA more without a hit.

The card clocked to 400/850, I ran 3Dmark and played Far Cry at that, didn't go past 74c, and even when not overclocked it was still at 73c.

At that overclock I got 9737 in 3Dmark03 on my 2500+ system clocked at 185*11.5 (2130mhz, around a 3100+ rating) Not overclocked it got 8373 in 3Dmark.

Also, since I already had Far Cry, I bought the MSI card because of it's amazing bundle instead of eVGA. It comes with 14cds, scroll down to see them: http://gameve.com/gve/store/ProductDetails.aspx?sku=vc-msi-0061

The PNY card didn't even have the cd mentioned on the box, just a white paper with a url to dl the drivers, didn't even mention any of the other stuff on the cd quoted on the box.

i had the card for 3 days .... i HATE GREEN PCB's....they drive me mad, so i sold it and bought the MSI :)

It should be illegal to use green on anything high end...oh and stock stickers for the heatsinks too. How I long for a blue mobo/gpu/sound card....

a while ago i wanted to build an all silver computer, soyo kt400 platinum, triplex silver ti4600, and triplex silver sound card. toss it in a lian li pc-65 case with white fans and white cold cathodes... that would have been sweet. hell if i could muster up the components i would still build it today, i could use another lamp in the living room, meanwhile it could be folding :D

Yes, batman & mark305tbi - the mouse can move you left & right - duh - the point is I want the keys - the mouse I use for aiming and tight shooting. But I LIKE TO HAVE THE DAMN KEY so I can use the mouse to aim and not have to use it to move while trying to keep a bead on someone. The point was - I want the choice on how to move - and not have that decided for me in a crippling the game sort of way, such as in Far Crap and Unreal 2.
But hey if you like the game that way fine, to each his/her/its own, I just wish I knew the game was like that before waisting hard earned fundage... as my personal taste differs.
Flaming you, no. Flaming game designers who are too lazy to program a way for me to turn left and right - absolutely.

Wow...that would have been beautiful...

too bad those triplex cards are really hard to come by in the states. oh well, i guess its i never built it, i dont know how i would be able to explain to the local police department why a 747 landed in my driveway :D

Have you ever noticed that when soldiers or police are engaged in a tactical situation, they sidestep? That is because you want to keep your weapon pointed in the direction of your targets. That's the proper way of keeping a bead on your target, by keeping it in your range of vision.

If you like playing like this, that's your choice...but you are definetely in the minority of people who use keys for turning instead of sidestep.

I don't even have any idea how anyone can possibly play effectively like that...although I suppose you should be alright in single player games. It might make ducking behind a wall while firing extremely difficult though, if you have to point away from the hell knight, lose sight of the hell knight because you rotate your plane of vision, and then press forward to run away (all the while a cacodemon sneaks up behind you back and you can't spin, strafe, and shoot to save your life because you can't sidestep)

Oh well, whatever suits you. Although you could have tried the demos first before complaining after you bought the game that you couldn't assign keys to turning.

I love strafing. I hated it at first, but it grows on you.

Use the mouse for turning, that's what it's for. :D

eh, I have a similiar story. I was browsing newegg or some place and saw a blue geforce 4 ti something. it was driving me nuts. just a little bit more and I would have sold my 9800 pro and bought that thing

As a lefty, i use the mouse for aiming and the left and right mouse keys for side to side strafing. I use the middle key to jump. I find it very effective
