One day I decided to give overclockign a try, usually I hit around 57,700 in aquamark 3. I overclocked my cpu, I got 59,000 this time. I went back to stock speed and tried the test like 5 times, each time I was getting 57,500 range. Overclocking freakin damaged my cpu, not good!!! I dont' know how you all manage to do it in one piece
 
your scores were 200 points below your 'average' a few times and you think you permanently damaged your cpu? lol
did you even try rebooting your com + running a3 again?
 
Umm, 200 points is in the margin of error, if I'm correct? :rolleyes: How exactly did this damage your CPU?

Does your computer feel slower as well? That's all that really matters...how the performance feels.
 
Benchmarks have a margin of error of a couple percents. If I run 3dmark 2001 my score varies about 100 points every time I reboot.
 
i'm sorry, but i do believe i might have lost some brain cells reading this :p
all in good fun. If your cpu was 'damaged' i'm sure you'd notice more than just a 200 point aquamark loss.

wow 200 points is in margin of error. kinda funny i think...i guess his machine is running extremely slow now..oh well.

depending on how much overclocking you did, that sounds like normality rather than disaster... and this from someone w/o experience.

if you only overclocked something like 50-100mhz then you probably are just seeing a little aftershock at most, and more likely your proc is running at spec.

from what i have heard if your proc was damaged, you would've had... er... :rolleyes: :D spectacular effects... smoke, noise, and the inability to post are classic symptoms of a fried proc.

tho if you really want to be sure get an identical one and see what the highest benchmark you can get for both is... i'd say offhand that more than 200-500 points then you have a prob. thing is that method costs $$$

Does calling someone ignorant really constitute 'flaming', though? I mean, saying "OMFG, YOU STUPID F*CKHEAD!! HAHA LOLOL YOUR MOM GOES TO COLLEGE!", now that's flaming, but 'ignorant' just means one doesn't know much, if anything, about a subject. I'm ignorant when it comes to a lot of stuff, but I wouldn't say that makes me stupid, or that if someone calls me ignorant that I should be insulted. I dunno, I'm just checking because, if so, then I will refrain from using the word so 'generously'! :p

Two things,

First, for the original poster, try running the same benchmark 100 times rebooting between each run. You will see a variance. Benchmarks are not an exact science, they're a measurement tool but there is always a level of estimation at the finest levels. I'm sure you've heard the expression "Measure twice, cut once" There is a reason for measuring more than once, and sometimes you might measure 3 or 4 times. Just my $.02, so take it for what it's worth.

This was a fun read... Kind of silly how people overreact to comments because they do not know the real definitions of words... :D
 
I think the "second part" he meant was the second part of his post, that being the entire definition.
 
Guys listen up. He REALLY did damage his CPU. Overclocking it a whole 200Mhz cause one of his pipes to physically crush and close up. Don't overclock or you will damage your CPU. I even heard that he could hear the pipe crash and burn.

Doesn't Aquamark take the average FPS and multiply it by 1000? So a 200 point loss is only .2 FPS.

Who cares? Just go back to the overclock and keep the 59k. It was working, wasn't it?

Never back off of an overclock unless you absolutely have to. To me, overclocking is for getting more performance, not just getting some high benchmarks and then going back to stock.

And seriously, is 57,500 a bad score? I don't think I've ever hit 40k. It's as bad as those people that whine about not being able to play their games at like 1000 FPS because they're capped at 120.
 
If your this uneducated, please never ever overclock again. Actually do us all a favor don't post here anymore......

However, i would be willing (more than so) to pay for shipping if you wanted to ship me that processor, even though it's damaged i'd be more than willing to take it off your hands.

After all, you could damage your motherboard running a damaged CPU in it.

I think i found how he damaged his proc

If your proc is broken as you claim...your vid card is to due to overclocking .. so you can sell me that damaged vid card for 100 dollars and i will pay shipping to... ;)

:eek: :D :rolleyes: that one belongs here. you can't really crush a "pipe" b/c it's not a physical object. a pipeline is a series of processes. nothing more.

if he were to make it get too hot then unless it's like a p1 or something ancient, it'd shut down and the comp'd hang like a branch from a tree. it is actually quite difficult to damage a chip w/o purposefully crushing it... the exceptions are athlon xp's cuz they have no heat spreader.

:confused: and what the #@!! does "pwnage" mean?!

This is why I tell alot of my friends NOT to overclock....because I know that they'd only over-react like this and flip out....thinking they wrecked their machine. Settle down bro, there is not a single thing wrong with your rig, you have done nothing. Aquamark3 actually does have a very large margin or error for it's scores, as do some other synthetic tests like 3DMark2001.

Let me repeat myeslf without calling you ignorant or newbish.....there is NOTHING wrong with your processor, you did NOT damage a thing.....and you computer is FINE.

Continue down the overclocking trail if you'd like, but after seeing this I'd recommend that you just leave things the way they are, unless you plan on doing a LOT of reading and looking around ahead of time so that you know what to expect.

Yes, 1fps equates to 1,000 points....so a drop of 200 points is no more then a .2fps variantion. I hope it doesn't take to long to get the point across that everything's fine.
 
i believe i have been saying the same thing, as have several others here.

and 0.2fps isn't much of a difference, trust me, i know cuz it's all this crap laptop i have ever gets in anything remotely 3d >_<
 
And now we just sit back and wait for the guy to actually respond. Unless he's not coming back after knowing the truth and how silly the post was in the first place.

EDIT: Another thing suqmaster.....a lot of motherboards that are running off their factor BIOS settings have a tendancy to give slight boosts to the FSB. For example.....if I reset the BIOS on my DFI board it automatically defaults to 204fsb or something of that nature. It's a sad attempt to make a certain motherbaord look faster then another, but it often works. If that WAS going on in some way, shape, or form with your board, then applying your own manual settings (back to "stock") might have been SLIGHTLY different from what it was running originally, and very well could have introduced that .2fps variance. The thing is though, that even having a few extra programs running in the background can alter your Aquamark3 score by the same margin.....so it's impossible to say what it actually was, but nothing is dmg'd.

I'd recommend donig some research or your own and really spend a lot of time reading up on overclocking in general, and spend a fair bit of time asking ppl questions also.....so that when/if you DO try at it again you won't over-react when something like this happens.
